Each musician has pieces of America hanging on the branches of his dreams. Those vestiges sway by the untoward winds of freedom and despair. Just like ghosts they haunt our imaginary worlds and they come, marching in procession, to dwell in Adam Wood’s music.
His first LP goes further than folk; it reaches out to highly charged boogies. His bittersweet voice now masters incandescent grooves. The melodies are thrown to heavy skies where Neil Young and Midlake can be found. The musical arrangements realized by Big D offer a powerful frame to Adam Wood’s songs.
Indeed Hang On starts with the impetuous Tender Love, as warm and sweet as a snowstorm in Georgia. Adam Wood establishes an obsessed and feverish tempo in his album. He rides trains haunted by Buffalo Springfield to travel through the US and bends the country to his will. Even while being caught at the heart of a storm made of keyboards and chorus, there is always the light of a guitar guiding us. Sharp and accurate, it writes here the name of this elusive country so majestically described by Henry Miller: the US.
